Wilson FAQ: questions buyers ask us

Straight answers about Wilson, Cartage’s AI logistics coordinator: how it compares to a TMS, which ERPs and carriers it connects to, how it handles mistakes, and what it costs.

Wilson vs. a TMS

What is Wilson, and how is it different from a TMS?
Wilson is an AI logistics coordinator that works like an employee. It sends emails, quotes and books freight, tracks shipments, and handles exceptions. A TMS only stores your data, so your team still has to do the work in it. Wilson does the work.
Does Wilson replace a TMS or work on top of it?
Both. Wilson can sit on top of your existing systems as an AI layer. Once it’s connected to your ERP, it can also act as your TMS, and some customers have phased out their TMS over time.
Which freight modes does Wilson support?
Wilson is mode-agnostic. It handles LTL, full truckload, and parcel, and it also supports drayage, ocean, and cross-border shipments.

Integrations and carriers

Which ERPs does Wilson integrate with?
Wilson integrates with NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, and other ERPs, including proprietary systems, as long as there’s documentation on how to connect. The Cartage team sets up the connection with you.
Do we need an API integration, or can Wilson work from email, CSV, or Excel files?
You don’t need an API. A scheduled CSV or Excel export from your ERP, hourly or daily, works well, and Wilson sends the updated file back. This is usually faster to set up than an API.
Which carriers and brokers is Wilson connected to?
Wilson has API connections with major parcel carriers, LTL carriers, and freight brokers. For carriers without an API, Wilson works by email or phone.
Can Wilson work with our own carriers and contracted rates?
Yes. Wilson works with your existing carrier network and contracted rates. Quotes and tenders go out from your email domain, and you can set a waterfall of preferred carriers.
Can Wilson communicate through our email, Slack, Teams, phone, or text?
Yes. Wilson has its own email, phone number, Slack, Teams, and text messaging, and it can send email from your company domain.

How Wilson works

How does Wilson quote, choose carriers, and book freight?
Wilson pulls the order from your ERP, creates the shipment, and requests quotes by API or email. It then picks a carrier based on your rules, such as lowest cost, fastest transit, or preferred carrier, and books it. Wilson can also compare quotes against your RFP rates.
How does shipment tracking work, and can our customers get live tracking?
Wilson tracks loads through carrier emails, GPS and ELD data (with carrier permission), and tracking links. Your customers can ask Wilson where a load is at any time and get live tracking.
Can Wilson handle BOLs, rate confirmations, PODs, and packing lists?
Yes. Wilson collects and sends freight documents, including BOLs, rate confirmations, proofs of delivery, and packing lists, and stores them with each shipment along with the email history and an audit log.
How does Wilson learn our SOPs?
You describe your SOPs in plain language. Wilson is trained on them and tested on simulations before and during your pilot.

Accuracy and human oversight

Can we approve quotes or bookings before Wilson acts on them?
Yes. You can add approval checkpoints, such as approving every quote. Many customers start this way while Wilson is learning, then loosen the rules once they’re comfortable with its accuracy.
What happens when Wilson makes a mistake?
Every run is checked by a verifying agent, and anything that breaks your SOPs is flagged within about 30 seconds. A person then steps in to fix it, and the edge case becomes a lesson Wilson learns from.
Is there a human in the loop?
Yes. Cartage’s team monitors every run. During onboarding, people review Wilson’s work before a reviewing agent takes over, and Wilson escalates to someone on your team when it’s stuck.

Pricing, pilots, and onboarding

How much does Wilson cost?
There are two ways to start. With Sign Up Free, unlimited use is $0 and you pay one rate per load. For teams that want Wilson set up on their own workflows and systems, pricing depends on scope and volume and is set against the cost of a hire. Book a demo for a quote.
Is there a free trial or pilot?
You can sign up free and start right away. Teams that want a custom setup start with a three-month pilot that runs month to month, so you can cancel at any time.
Is there a long-term contract?
No lock-in. Pilots are month to month. If Wilson works for you, most customers move to an annual agreement with flexible terms.
Are there implementation fees, support charges, or usage limits?
No. There are no implementation fees, no separate support packages, and no credits or usage limits.
How long does onboarding take?
About a week. We ask for your best operations person’s workflows and SOPs plus a list of your systems, so integrations can be built in parallel.
